Amaravati, July 5:
The union government has been asked to prevail upon the State of Telangana to stop at once the indiscriminate drawal of water solely for
power generation when there is no need for irrigation and to direct the KRMB to
be neutral in functioning.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in a letter to Union Irrigation Minister Gajendra Singh Shakhawat asked to stop Telangana from using Krishna River water indiscriminately under the pretext of power generation.
He urged the union Minister to direct KRMB may be to first visit the sites of unauthorised projects under execution by Telangana, before visiting Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme site.
“It is also earnestly requested that the jurisdiction of KRMB may be notified immediately and all the offtakes which include water for irrigation, power and drinking water on common reservoirs be kept under the control of KRMB with CISF security for effective Operation and Maintenance in the interest of both the States.
Mr Jagan seeking the intervention and immediate action on the various issues raised above to protect the interest of Andhra Pradesh against the
whimsical actions of Telangana.
