Republic Day—Upholding social harmony is prime responsibility of the government : Governor

Vijayawada, January 26:
Upholding social harmony is a prime responsibility of the Government and elements that have been trying to disturb it in recent times have been brought to book, said Governor of Andhra Pradesh Biswabhushan Harichandan. In the Republic Day speech he delivered after unfurling the tricoloured flag at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Tuesday the Governor said that some vested interest were trying to whip up passions and destroy the smooth and strong social fabric of the state.
Referring to the several incidents that occurred in temples in the state the Governor said that there was no place for desecration, vandalism and arson in society. The Government had given a very stern warning to such elements and perpetrators of such acts, he said.
Mr Harichandan said that the Government had a very clear agenda and was giving special emphasis to education, medicine, health, agriculture and welfare. The AP government was very effective in handling the outbreak of COVID-19 and had won accolades from all over the country.
The Government did not stop with its welfare programmes despite the pandemic, the Governor said. The Governor spoke in great detail about the welfare schemes of the Government in the speech. Chief Minister Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy, several Cabinet Ministers and top ranking officials were present.
