Visakhapatnam, July 9:
CPI national secretary K. Narayana has called for a struggle in Delhi to save the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, for which privatisation process has been initiated.
Mr. Narayana, who visited the relay hunger strike camp of agitating steel plant workers at Kurmannapalem here on Friday, said that protest on a big scale in the national capital can only save the plant. “I am ready to mobilise leaders of various parties for it, ” he added.
The CPI leader appealed to Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who had taken part in the movement for the establishment of the VSP, to use his good offices for protection of the plant.
Mr. Narayana also urged BJP leader K. Haribabu, who was made the Governor of Mizoram, to reject the offer and mount pressure on Centre to withdraw its decision.
Suspecting the sincerity of the YSR Congress government on the VSP issue, he said Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should lead an agitation in Delhi to mount pressure on the Central government.
