JNTU-A contributions significant: Governor

Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Anantapur (JNTU-A) Biswa Bhusan Harichandan participated in the 11th Convocation of the University from Raj Bhavan in virtual mode on Saturday. Delivering the Convocation Address, Mr Harichandan said that the Covid-19 had escalated into a global pandemic resulting in an universal shift to virtual learning that proved disruptive for teachers, students, and all stake holders. the said India has proved its excellence with indigenous development and manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines to face the challenges posed by the pandemic.

He said Andhra Pradesh is progressing in the right direction and the JNTU-Anantapur is contributing to the State’s development in the field of technological education and said that JNTU-A had been taking steps to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with Multi-disciplinary nature of education, globalization, and collaborations which were important features of NEP 2020. Mr Harichandan said JNTU-A has responded quickly to the challenge posed by the Covid pandemic and adapted to the changes and successfully conducted all examinations in online mode as per schedule. He further said that the University can boast of illustrious alumni who made a mark in their respective fields, including Dr. A Suresh, Minister for Education, Prof. Y. Venkata Rami Reddy, Former Member of Union Public Service Commission etc. Governor Sri Harichandan congratulated the students who received Medals for best academic performance and those who received their degrees during the Convocation and said they have a great role to play in the task of nation building and advised them that whatever sphere of activity they take up, they should think of the downtrodden people of the society and help them to come to the mainstream. Dr. A. Suresh, Minister for Education, who participated as a special guest at the Convocation said he is a proud alumni of the University having received his Ph.D. from the University way back in 2010 and presenting degrees to the students during the Convocation has given him an immense pleasure. He said the State government has been implementing several welfare schemes for the benefit of students, and for students pursuing higher education in particular and JNTU-A is one among the five universities selected by the Government to transform into a Multi-disciplinary Educational & Research University (MERU) and advised the students to acquire value-based learning as employment is available but employability is the problem. Prof. Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), participating in the Convocation as the Chief Guest said JNTU-A has an illustrious past having produced several prominent alumni. He said Andhra Pradesh has been a reformist State in education and IT infrastructure and said India ranks second in entrepreneurial sector and third in technical education in the world and despite the impact of Covid pandemic, the country did not lose the academic year. Earlier, Prof. Y. Venkata Rami Reddy, Former Member of UPSC, was presented the Degree of Honoris Causa. Prof. G. Ranga Janardhana, Vice-Chancellor presented the Annual Report of the University. Prof. M. Vijaya Kumar, Registrar, Members of the Executive Council and Academic Senate, Members of the faculty and staff have attended the Convocation.
