India became a republic only after the creation of the Constitution: Chief Justice

India became a republic only after the Constitution was written, Andhra Pradesh Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami said.
The Chief Justice switched on the motor to hoist a giant flag in front of the High Court here on Tuesday.
India got independence on August 15, 1947 but it did not become a republic until January 26, 1950. It took several great intellectuals to give a final shape to the Indian Constitution in the meantime, Justice Goswami explained.
Just like other great institutions there were several challenges even in the judiciary. There were a few deficiencies even now and there was a need to surmount these challenges with the cooperation of all, he said.
He said that the traditions and ideology of the Andhra Pradesh people impressed him very much . He Thanked the judged and judicial officers of the state for extending all help to him..
Andhra Pradesh Advocate General Subramanyam Sriram said that all were the same in the eyes of law and therefore the responsibility of upholding the law was also same for all. AP State Bar Council Chairman Ganta Rama Rao and others spoke.
