Amaravati, April 4:
Justice Seshasayana Reddy chairman of the Committee appointed by National Green Tribunal assured that he will request East and West Godavari district magistrates to provide legal aid and organize awareness camps for Polavaram affected farmers, people.
Justice Reddy accepted the request made by the Advocate Sravan Kumar for Dr. Pentapati Pulla Rao during a public hearing held at Polavaram of West Godavari district.
The NGT Committee has conducted two days visit at Polavaram on the environmental disasters caused due to unscientific muck dumping by project authorities.
Large number of land losers and farmers expressed unhappiness about the poor Rehabilitation and Resettlement provided by the Government.
Justice Reddy told the land losers that they have right to change the award before the Land acquisition Tribunal or High Court.
He has told to the officials that the land losers of Polavaram Dump must get their compensation. If the money is not paid to any farmer, they are entitled to get interest.
That the advocates presented the grievances of Polavaram project affected persons told the Committee that 70 percent project displaced persons are STs and SCs. They don’t have awareness to take up legal battle. Hence they may be given legal aid. It was further prayed that since the Polavaram project is one of the biggest project in india,. District collectors may conduct grievance redress day once in a month for speedy disposal of grievances and keeping an eye on corruption.
The meeting was attended by officials from Union Ministry of Environment and forest, Central Pollution Control Board, AP Pollution Control Board, IITs of Delhi and Hyderabad.
