*107 AP projects handed over to board control: Devineni
*Polavaram handed over to board out of political jealousy
*RLIS, Veligonda not found in approved list
Amaravati, July 19:
Former Minister and TDP leader Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Sunday asserted that Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was responsible for Andhra Pradesh losing control over all of its 107 irrigation projects which were now handed over to the river water management board on account of the latest Central Gazette notification.
Mr. Umamaheswara Rao deplored that even the lifeline project of Polavaram was handed over to the water board just because its credit would go to former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Tungabhadra HLC and LLC canals and Dowleswaram projects came under the Central control. Still, the CM’s Advisors were talking shamelessly about spelling mistakes in the notification.
Addressing a press conference here, the TDP leader asked whether Mr. Jagan Reddy could clarify why the Veligonda and Rayalaseema lift irrigation schemes were not shown in the approved list in the Gazette. The CM came to power begging for ‘one chance’ but now he had cut the throats of the Pulichintala and Rayalaseema farmers by not releasing water. AP lost control over 36 of its projects on the Krishna and 71 projects on the Godavari because of the Chief Minister’s total ignorance.
Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that the TDP regime began the interlinking of Godavari-Penna but the YCP regime stopped these works as well. If these works were completed, water would have been released from Bollapalli reservoir to Banakacherla from where water would have been taken to Somasila and Kandaleru. The entire Rayalaseema would have turned green and prosperous. Along with this, the YCP stopped works on North Andhra Sujala Sravanthi and Polavaram left canal.
The TDP leader deplored that Mr. Jagan Reddy was not opening his mouth even though neighbours Telangana and Karnataka were carrying out unapproved projects to harm the interests of AP farmers. The AP CM was solely interested in saving his assets in neighbouring States. The upper riparian States were trying to ensure that there would be no water in Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar in future. However, CM Jagan was preferring his friendships and dinner meetings in Pragati Bhavan.
Decrying the YCP regime’s ‘irresponsibility’, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao termed it as shameless that the AP CM has cheated the State farmers with his empty letters and paper advertisements. If the water disputes were taken up with the Jal Shakti Minister along with the Irrigation Minister of neighbour State and officials in the Apex Council, there would have been a proper solution. The AP CM had miserably failed on all counts consequently jeopardising the water rights of the State farmers as a whole.
The TDP leader asserted that if Mr. Jagan Reddy had followed the example of his predecessor Naidu to implement the 2016 draft notification, AP would not have suffered from this present loss of face. AP could not do anything now while neighbor State was diverting water that should have come into Sagar right canal. The Jagan Reddy Government was not paying Rs. 3,900 Cr dues to the food grain farmers even now.
Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that the AP CM had no face to visit Polavaram frequently like Mr. Naidu did just because the YCP regime had failed to carry out works properly at the dam. The Chandrababu regime spent Rs. 11,537 Cr on Polavaram and completed 71 percent works. Three CMs before him spent just Rs. 5,135 Cr. Whereas, the present CM Jagan Reddy spent just Rs. 845 Cr in the past two years, of this over Rs. 145 Cr was spent for land acquisition. Even these funds of evacuees were diverted into the bank accounts of their benamis by the ruling party MLA leaders.
The TDP leader deplored that everything the ruling YCP leaders touched was turning into a scam. They had looted Rs. 100 Cr out of Rs. 145 Cr of evacuees compensation. Then it would be unimaginable how much of the overall Rs. 845 Cr of Polavaram funds went into the pockets of the YCP leaders. The lives of Polavaram tribal evacuees turned miserable as they had to take refuge in hill forests due to heartless and ruthless acts of the AP CM and his party leaders.
