Visakhapatnam, March 26
Bharat bandh, for which a call was given by various trade unions, parties and farmers associations against what they called anti-people policies of the BJP-led NDA government, including farm laws and privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, was partial and peaceful in Visakhapatnam. Except BJP, all other parties supported the bandh and took part in it.
While educational institutions declared holiday, banks remained closed. However, government offices functioned as usual.
As the YSRCP government in the State supported the bandh call, the RTC buses were off the road till 4 p.m. While autorickshaws were seen plying at several places, majority shops remained opened. Theatres screened shows as usual.
Meanwhile, protests were staged in the steel plant area protesting against the Centre’s decision to privatise the VSP. Activists of Left parties took out a rally as part of the bandh.
